Geocaching in Ireland

I got a request of a dear friend, explaining how a typical chase for a cache works.

To get the coordinates you have to become a member of geocaching on www.geocaching.com. Another condition for hunting cashes successfully is a GPS device in your hand (GPS unit or an iPhone with the corresponding app from the iTunes Store).

You start to chose the cache you want to find for the day on the internet site... then go for it!

The GPS device will (hopefully) show you the way...

Some caches are quite far and you have to travel to them... first by car for example... then you come nearby and you have to walk...

You will finds descriptions and hints on the internet site or even on the app. Otherwise make a copy or some notes from the cache on the internet site in order to get the success in finding the cache, which might be well hidden...

Anyway a cache may be big as a finger nail, can have any size up to a big container, very often after my experience it is a small tupperware box.

In this caches you will find a "log book", which you sign as, you trade items, which might be in a cache, one to one or you "transport" so called Geocoins (GC) or Travel Bugs (TB), which you grab from one cache in order to put it into the next.

Travel Bugs look like military dog tags, but Geocoins have different looks and sizes... every item has its own code on it. You enter the code on the internet site and the owner can see, where his little traveller is at the moment.
